Daily Crypto Briefing - 2026-06-25
Good Morning Blocksignal Community,
Yesterday was a risk-off day across the board, and crypto got caught in the same downdraft as gold, silver, and high-growth tech. Bitcoin opened near 62,660, its weakest start in about two weeks, then drifted toward 61,000 intraday as a stronger dollar and rising rate expectations pulled money out of risk assets. Three threads defined the session. First, the move was macro-led rather than crypto-specific: an AI-driven tech selloff that began Monday dragged Bitcoin lower in tandem with the Nasdaq. Second, the structural backdrop stayed heavy, with spot Bitcoin ETFs now in their sixth straight week of outflows and corporate treasuries like Strategy and Strive sitting on losses. Third, against that bearish tape came a notable counter-signal: BlackRock, the world's largest asset manager, formally told investors to hold a small Bitcoin allocation even as the price was falling.
Market action
Bitcoin opened at 62,660 and traded around 62,760 in early New York hours before the slide continued, with some desks marking it near 61,200 by mid-morning. That left it down roughly 2% on the day, about 4.5% on the week, 18% on the month, and 41% on the year, far below the October 2025 record of 126,198. The token has not found real momentum since briefly dipping under 60,000 on June 5. Ethereum was the relative calm spot, opening flat at 1,665 and ticking up to around 1,674, though it remains down 7% on the week and 21% on the month. The read here is straightforward. This was broad de-risking, not a crypto-native breakdown, and Bitcoin behaved like the high-beta corner of a portfolio that investors trim first.
Macro and the Fed
The driver was macro. A strong dollar and the prospect of higher-for-longer rates have been pulling capital toward cash and bonds, and that pressure intensified after the Federal Reserve's June 18 meeting stripped out its earlier easing language. Deutsche Bank went a step further, now forecasting two rate hikes in 2026 after previously expecting cuts. For a non-yielding asset like Bitcoin, that repricing removes a pillar of demand. Layer in the competition for speculative capital from artificial intelligence, where US tech giants are on track to spend more than 700 billion dollars on infrastructure this year, and you get investors treating Bitcoin and AI equities as rival destinations. When the AI trade wobbled this week and the Nasdaq fell as much as 3.4%, Bitcoin went with it.
Flows and treasuries
The flow picture explains why bounces keep stalling. Spot Bitcoin ETFs have logged six consecutive weeks of net outflows totaling roughly 6 billion dollars, with about 2.4 billion leaving in June alone. Deutsche Bank's Marion Laboure captured the shift bluntly, describing Bitcoin as increasingly trading like an institutional risk asset, where the marginal buyer is now an ETF allocator or a corporate treasury rather than a retail participant. When those buyers step back, price follows. The treasury names show the strain. Strategy fell for a fifth straight session and is down more than 20% on the week, still carrying the weight of its late-May decision to sell 32 BTC, its first sale since 2022, to cover preferred-stock dividends. Strive, the treasury company backed by Vivek Ramaswamy, is sitting on paper losses after buying 2,500 BTC at an average near 74,092, well above current levels, even as its CEO says the firm keeps accumulating.
Adoption and the counter-signal
The day's most interesting wrinkle ran against the tape. BlackRock, which manages roughly 14 trillion dollars, updated its guidance to recommend a 1 to 2% Bitcoin allocation in diversified portfolios, framing it as a structural diversification call rather than a speculative one. Its lead model-portfolio manager argued that a modest position can lift risk-adjusted returns without dominating day-to-day risk, comparing the risk of a 1 to 2% slice to that of a single large-cap technology stock. The firm pointed investors to its IBIT product, which now holds over 765,000 BTC. It is worth holding both ideas at once. Institutions are still building the long-term plumbing for Bitcoin even while short-term allocators pull money out, and that tension is the whole story of this market right now.
Today's Watch
For today, the levels matter most. Bitcoin needs to hold the 60,000 to 62,500 zone. A clean break below 60,000 risks inviting another round of forced selling, while reclaiming the low-60s would suggest the worst of the flush is behind. Watch the AI and tech tape closely, since that correlation has been the dominant short-term driver, and keep an eye on whether ETF flows turn from outflow to inflow, which would be the cleanest sign that allocators are re-engaging. On the calendar, Congress has scheduled a CLARITY Act hearing for July 17 as a marker for US market-structure rules, and the next real Fed checkpoint lands in late July. Until then, treat strength as relief rather than resolution.
This is market commentary, not investment advice.
