Chainlink solves a problem that isn't obvious until you think about it. A blockchain, on its own, can't see anything outside itself.

A smart contract can follow its rules perfectly, but those rules often depend on outside information. What's the current price of Ethereum? Did a shipment arrive? Who won a match? The blockchain has no built-in way to know any of that. This is called the oracle problem, and it's a real limit on what smart contracts can do alone.

Chainlink is a decentralized oracle network built to close that gap. It feeds external data onto blockchains in a way that's reliable and hard to manipulate. Rather than trusting one source, it gathers information from many independent providers and combines it, so no single bad input can quietly corrupt the result.

This makes Chainlink a piece of infrastructure that other projects depend on rather than a product most people use directly. A large share of decentralized finance relies on accurate price data, and much of that data arrives through Chainlink. It's a good reminder that crypto is built in layers, and some of the most-used parts work quietly in the background.
